Market Risk Reporting Specialist with Commodity MNC

Our client is a renowned commodity trading MNC based in town.

 

For this role, you are responsible for preparing a suite of risk reports to ensure that all market risk exposures and mark to market P&Ls are known and monitored. In addition, you are responsible for ensuring the integrity of the data in the systems that support risk reporting. The role will focus on a range of commodities, in particular, coal and metals (base and precious).

 

For this role, you are the primary business partner for front office on the day to day risk reporting and is responsible for leading/ mentoring the risk reporting specialists. The role is expected to fill in for the Risk Reporting Mgr during periods of absence.

 

TYPICAL TASKS

 

  • Generate (daily, weekly and monthly for senior management reporting) risk reports, including P&L and Exposure/Position, using the implemented risk system. Acts as the main focal point with traders and Finance on day to day issues. Responsible for creating solutions and maintain good customer relationships

 

  • Lead the technical analysis on trading results, including analysis of P&L and volumes. The analysis can require a very high degree of technical competence, which requires advanced Excel and SQL knowledge

 

  • Training for the (junior) Risk Specialists

 

  • Assumes the role of Risk Reporting Manager in their absence

 

  • Leading the collaboration with Market Risk Management to identify system improvements

 

  • Monitor compliance of Front Office activities with the Marketing Risk Policy and escalate breaches of limits to the Marketing Risk Committee.

 

  • Validating prices that go into the risk systems, to ensure accuracy of reporting and invoice value.

 

  • Performing Risk Metrics - VaR, Stress Testing and Back-testing for the physical and financial portfolio.

 

  • Assist in the rolling out and UAT (User Acceptance Testing) of Risk system, by acting as the risk reporting subject matter expert (SME)

 

  • Lead the implementation of the risk management/ reporting of the interest rate risk arising from Treasury activities

 

CAPABILITY REQUIRED TO DO THE ROLE

-Degree educated with a qualification in finance, business or economics or Quantitative disciplines (engineering, mathematics etc)

-Around 4 to 7 years of market Risk Control experience in a commodity or energy trading environment, which should include:

-             Knowledge of commodities markets

-              P&L reporting

-              Exposure/Position reporting

-              Value at Risk (VaR) reporting

-              Risk modelling experience in Excel/Access using VBA.

-              Experience with Tableau and Power BI will be a bonus but not a must

-In-depth knowledge of the calculations behind P&L and exposure calculations for both physical and financial commodity trades which includes options.

-The ability to build/review/amend Excel/VBA models, generate data warehouse queries in SQL. SQL experience is an asset but not a must

-Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders across a global organization.

-Has good commodity knowledge and risk management background

-Numerate and attention to detail.

-Comfortable in working with systems and spreadsheets.

-Excellent problem solving skills
