Senior Mgr- Asia Statutory Financial Reporting with a US Retail MNC

-Around 8 to 14 years of accounting experience, with some Big 4 audit exp and internal statutory reporting experience gained with MNCs.

-Retail exposure or experience dealing with complex sale channels across the region will  be preferred

-Experience leading interaction with the external auditors in producing audited statutory financial statements

 

 

Our client is a renowned/global MNC based in town.

 

This is a  high profile and newly created role involving complex tax and accounting issues and you will play a critical role in managing the Asia statutory reporting process. You are responsible for all Asia legal and regulatory statutory reporting requirements and will be actively involved in strategic planning.  In addition, you will be involved in developing and executing Company policies that affect the legal entity structure and/or operations.

 

For this role, you will assume the coverage of the Asia  region including China, Japan, Korea, SEA . Reporting to the SVP and the Asia Controller, you will coordinate with finance personnel in Europe, Asia and US and will take the lead on proactively guiding Asia work performed by outside financial reporting advisors. There will be regular interaction with senior management on legal entity issues. You will also be responsible for effectively interacting with multiple functional areas to resolve complex statutory reporting issues. You will also assist in managing the Asia statutory reporting operations which includes strategic planning, regulatory compliance and statutory financial statement reporting. 

Key areas:

 

Financial Reporting  (80%)

  • Play a hands-on role in leading the preparation of annual statutory financial statements including maintaining a standardized approach to bridge US GAAP results to local statutory results
  • Coordinate with the external advisors on how to maintain local ledgers and statutory adjustments in an approved local software
  • Lead interaction with the external auditors in producing audited statutory financial statements by providing timely responses to all requests and proactively developing the optimal way to respond to audit inquiries involving unique or complex issues. 
  • Lead automation and streamline of statutory reporting process, including data gathering, request gathering and project management. Lead effort with non-integrated business partners to provide proper reporting process and ensure data integrity.
  • Lead/support the system upgrade for new US GAAP vs. IFRS and local statutory work.
  • At the direction of the Senior Manager – Asia Tax Lead, assist with tax calculations required in quarterly and annual SEC US GAAP close process including the preparation and analysis of Company’s standard tax reporting package. 

 

Transfer Pricing (10 % to 20%)

 

Candidate will work at the direction of the VP of Transfer Pricing to:

 

  • Monitor the transfer pricing policy in Asia, especially in connection with Customs and Treasury-related matters.
  • Assist in forecasting transfer pricing impact for Asia jurisdictions and developing models to improve accuracy of forecasted results.
  • Support the in-house transfer pricing compliance process (development of the annual transfer pricing reports) for Asia entities and participation in the annual functional analysis cycle.
  • Support VP of TP with transfer pricing audits in Asia jurisdictions.

 

General

 

  • Develop a thorough understanding/involvement with finance and business personnel in order to identify statutory reporting issues
  • Lead continuous process improvements and integration of various aspects of the statutory reporting functions to achieve optimal efficiency, effective controls, and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with key internal controls in support of the Company’s financial reporting process, the proper functionality of which plays an important role in determining whether the Company’s overall internal controls are functioning effectively.

 

Key requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Around 8 to 14 years of accounting experience, with some Big 4 audit exp and internal statutory reporting experience gained with MNCs.
  • Regional financial reporting exp is required.
  • Experience leading interaction with the external auditors in producing audited statutory financial statements
  • Ability to speak Mandarin is a plus (given the coverage of the China markets)
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and US GAAP reporting principles.
  • Internal Controls experience required
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Retail experience is an plus but not a must.
  • Exposure to a more complex business selling model (e.g. sell through distributors, sell directly , sell via e commerce etc) across the region is required
  • Strong technical accounting skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, takes initiative, highly motivated.
  • Ability to multi task and be flexible regarding changing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to perform critical analysis and thinking, prioritize and problem solve.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
