Head of Tax for a commodity MNC

  • Min 10 years’ experience gained in a Big-4 and/or MNC, of which at least 3 years should be in a senior management capacity

JOB SUMMARY

Lead and manage the tax function covering both direct and indirect taxes across all downstream operations in Singapore, China, India etc. in which the Group has a presence, and including new markets to be developed. Work with Corporate tax team to manage/optimize the group’s effective tax rate, identifying opportunities and risks and advise on the tax structuring of acquisitions and new ventures

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·Establish/manage a tax function within Downstream covering the major jurisdictions in which we operate

·Work closely with commercial and finance teams to ensure that all operations and transactions are structured in a manner that is tax efficient, relate all localized planning to global strategy

·Work closely with business development, legal and commercial teams to structure M&A deals, new operations, in order to maximize post tax returns and mitigate tax exposures. Coordinate with external advisors as appropriate

· Advise and assist on transfer pricing issues and documentation, ensure compliance and promote best practices

·Work with financial and treasury teams to ensure tax-efficient financing arrangements of downstream operations, in relation to minimizing withholding taxes and managing thin capitalization issues

·Work with relevant tax authorities to secure tax holidays or incentives as appropriate, ensure compliance with all conditions of award

·Review all tax submissions to ensure compliance and timeliness of reporting

· Assume overall responsibility for tax compliance, both direct and indirect across all downstream businesses, working with internal finance staff and external advisors as appropriate

·Deal with tax authorities within the jurisdiction as necessary in relation to queries or negotiations and disputes

·Constantly keep abreast of changes in tax legislations and assess their implications on our business. Take appropriate actions to positively respond to such changes

·On an adhoc basis, may be called upon to assist with specific employee or personal income tax issues

  

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  •  Minimum degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience gained in a Big-4 and/or MNC in-house tax environment, of which at least 3 years should be in a senior management capacity
  • Significant exposure to international tax issues including tax-efficient group structuring, M&A work, transfer pricing and cross border taxes
  • Understanding of commodities (palm and related oils) industry in trading, refining and consumer products a plus
  • Understanding of accounting rules and principles as well as statutory reporting requirements
  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills, capable of interacting with senior management as well as non-finance colleagues to promote tax planning ideas
