Our client is a renowned commodity MNC. For this role, you will be part of the market intelligence team within the Marketing Team supporting the Iron Ore & Steel business.
PURPOSE
Deliver market analytics to support the provision of market intelligence for iron ore and steel markets with a particular focus on China.
TYPICAL TASKS
Commercial value generation
• Assist with the delivery of market intelligence through gathering, collating, analysing, interpreting market data and intelligence specific to iron ore & steel markets.
• Build probabilistic forecasting models to identify market opportunities.
•Conduct monthly and quarterly market analysis (S&D, costs, competitor analysis) as an input into the market forecasting processes.
•Maintain customer and supplier databases and market price models that capture the collective knowledge gathered from the Sales and Marketing team, internal and external sources.
Stakeholder Management
•Deliver routine market reporting services designed to meet key stakeholder requirements.
•Work closely with physical sales and ferrous trading members to formulate actionable market views
•Maintain closer contact with China based analyst to ensure seamless flow of information and exchange regular market knowledge
Specialist Support
•Provide back up to manager in delivery of market presentations to senior management when manager is not around.

Requirements/ knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business, Economics or similar disciplines
- Around 3 to 5 years of related experience in iron ore & steel market analysis and research with a China focus.
- Can read and speak Mandarin as this role will focus heavily on the China market. Ability to write Chinese is also preferred due to the heavy coverage of the China market.
- An understanding of the economic, commercial and political issues affecting the iron ore and steel markets.
- Open to market analytics professionals from commodity firms, market research providers and price agencies
- Expertise in global commodity markets and their drivers.
- Experience/knowledge of the iron ore/steel market, technical ore specifications and operational knowledge
- Deep understanding of marketing fundamentals (i.e. pricing, delivery strategy, value chain dynamics, net back calculations).
- Has strong Commercial Reasoning and Application, Commodity Knowledge, Market Analytics and Intelligence relating to the Iron Ore and Steel markets.
